How do I get dye out of it? I'm refinishing a BK body that was dyed black. I can't get it off of the cutaways or the horn ends. I've been sanding but I'm almost to the point of reprofiling the guitar. I've wiped it down with naphtha, alcohol, and lacquer thinner at various stages. I didn't use too much because I didn't want it to dilute and just soak in more. Unless you guys and gal can help this VIP is getting bursted, at least on the edges. :dontknow:

Go for the burst; dyes strike in so deep it's unbelievable, and end grain is like sending it up straw capillaries.

What Tonar said.

When it comes to stain, end grain is the quicker picker-upper. Sucks it up like a dry towel. I suspect end grain was the genesis of burst finishes. Even if you like the color you're using, the end grain sucks it up like a desert flower and invariably ends up darker. You can prevent it to large degree by sealing the wood ahead of the stain, but that's not the problem you have; you're stuck with what's already been done. So, burst it again.
