Does anyone use here use elastic style string mutes? I have seen them used by Victor Wooten, Guthrie Govan and others but I've tried 3 different styles of the ponytail elastics but they're all too loose once they get over the headstock. A google search only turned up a sweatband with velcro around it they were trying to sell for $30 each. I could make one from velcro but then you couldn't roll it off the neck. There must be something specifically made for guitars and basses.

Step 1: Go to ANY local store that has hair care products.
Step 2: Purchase scruncies
Step 3: Use on guitar.

my apologies... I was thinking mutes as in bass mutes.... you're talking about between the nut and tuning pegs.... oops... carry on!~

Mine say "scunci" with an umlaut over the "u." You need the ones with the umlaut to play metal.

Thanks for the info - I found a thin one that works pretty good although I'm still looking for the scrunchie type ones that aren't too loose. I give all the ones that don't work on guitar to my niece so they're not going to waste.  I would have used them myself when my hair looked like this: :party07: but now it's more like this:  :guitaristgif:

:laughing11: I play mostly funk rock, so I think the regular ones will work fine.

If you've got some money to spend, here you go:

http://www.gruvgear.com/fretwraps

Those are the ones I mentioned earlier but I can't see paying $30 just for one and they don't look like you can push them off the fretboard when not in use.
