This song has a special meaning to me: I can say that this is one of those songs that have greatly influenced me and help on my guitar playing over the years.
There is the structure of the song: it is just genius how smart all the guitar parts complement each other very well to a full wall of guitar sound.
And there is that guitar solo from Don Felder which is a true classic rock master piece:
he plays very close along the chord progression which gives the solo a nice overall melodical flavour and it sounds super easy, but only as long you haven't dived into the lead work with it's challenging bendings (country bendings, Hendrix bend). That is at least what happened to me.
I have already recorded this song in 2012. When I listen from time to time to these recordings I often think: oh my goodness - this sounds modest
I have now played this almost 50 times on stage and I should have absorbed it now better into my guitarist DNA :icon_biggrin:
That is the reason why I give a recording another try.
How to cover such a song?
I always decide this song by song. This one is so full of well known licks and phrases, so I tend to play it as close as possible to the original.
Having that said: altough I play it pretty close note by note, there is still something "in" the notes where you can hear the guitar player and his emotions
The recording is based on a free of charge backing track (vocals, bass, drums) from www.guitarbackingtrack.com. I have added seven (!) guitar tracks in total (everyone who has already dealt with this song, know what I mean).
For the acoustic parts, I have used mit modded James Tyler Variax (with a Warmoth neck) with the 12-string Martin guitar model.
For all the other E-guitar tracks, I have played my beloved Warmoth H-S-H built.
