It kinda helps to have Duane (or Derek) in your band to get these right. (Derek even raises his eyebrow once or twice!)

Stub, that's really good advice - when covering Fleetwood Mac, have Duane Allman, Derek Trucks, or a guitarist of similar caliber in your band. Will work on that! You are ever so helpful, my good man. Carry on!

"Go Your Own Way" x 6.02 x 1023

That song rocks. "Dreams" is a fine tune, but it's so AOR.

Edit: "Green Manalishi" is the dog's bollocks. Priest's cover of that is just sick. Perfection.

Go your own way and while you're at it; second hand news. Get the folks up and dancing and clapping.

You'll never get away from the sound of the song you almost sang...

Silver springs man. That's just where it's at. Best song of theirs lyrically, bar none. And it's nostalgic whether you've heard it before or not.

This is a great suggestion. Those are my two fave Fleetwood Mac tunes. How about "What Makes You Think You're The One?" -- that weird, jittery drum thing is a lot of fun.

Postscript and thread-ender:  The final decision was to end the set with C Lo Green's "F* U" which is actually a brilliant call in its own way. That's the way that it goes.
:dontknow: :dontknow:
Off to practice now.

Gonna go with "Dreams."  Great song.

...And what's with all the hate on Stevie?  Maybe I'm missing something, but I love Stevie...

She's a good song writer, but I never really liked her voice.  She's too much of a "head" singer for me.

Well, she is the "head" singer...  :)

I mean head vs. chest singing. Most singers switch off from chest to head when it is appropriate.  If you only sing from the head, it sounds shallow and thin to me.

You don't like Stevie Nicks' voice? Really?
To me, the standard "trained" voices don't ever really appeal in popular music - Joan Baez has a truly amazing voice, and she did some amazing singing, and she's a "better" singer than Stevie Nicks, but I can't say I prefer to listen to her. Even someone like Emmylou Harris doesn't have a classically great voice, but I could listen to her singing a laundry list all day long.
My brother has some vocal training, he sings in a choir and a quartet, but when we recorded some folk music covers he really, really struggled - it sounded BAD when he sang "well" and it wasn't just me saying that.

Oh definitely, I know a ton of people with classically trained voices who sound freaking terrible when they try to sing rock or blues or really anything where it is inappropriate to sound like an opera singer.

I don't think she is a bad singer at all, I just don't like her voice very much.  I like softer, warmer voices with a little more air.  Her voice is just too heady for me.  It's the same with Ben Folds.  I like his writing, and I don't think he's a bad singer, but his voice just doesn't do anything for me.

Can you imagine King Diamond trying to sing the Blues?
