Finally got to work on the body. First pair of pics are after a fresh application of TransTint purple. Second set of pics are after two coats of satin poly. It darkened a little as expected but I was going for a really deep purple and it pleasantly worked. Many more coats clear coming this week hopefully. Really starting to gas for the necks to get here.

The necks should be arriving next week.  :icon_thumright:

I'm still contemplating trying to stain the headstock faces to match the body. I'm afraid the maple might not get as dark as the alder. The necks are all maple with black binding and block inlays.  Leave well enough alone?  :dontknow:

Another dilemma I'm having is should I go with a full double neck pickguard (pics attached) that Warmoth offers or just modify a strat pickguard just to cover the pickup and control cavities. There is a lot of beautiful purple grained real estate on the bass side I would hate to cover up. :dontknow:

No point in trying to blend in with a purple doubleneck.
(Picture the Far Side cartoon with the ice floe full of penguins with the polar bear wearing the penguin mask - tried to find  a copy to steal but they were all pinterest / not linkable)

It's solid enough I think you should go with the Blue Pearloid.

I'd order the Strat and the doubleneck pickguard once you decide on a color.  That way, if you go for the double, you've got a head start on a companion guitar.  :icon_thumright:

I'd go with black for the pickguard, even if it's a modified Strat one. The purple is going to be enough color. Anything else will clash.

.  Haven't seen a Far Side in many years!

Necks arrived yesterday and look great. The frets on both necks need a little light work to smooth some sharp edges. It will take longer to tape than anything.
The guitar neck dropped perfectly into its pocket on the body. The bass neck would barely fit in an 1/8" into its pocket. I had to do some sanding to the pocket sides and back to get it to fit. I will have to do a little more sanding to both pockets when a few coats of poly are added to the necks weekend.
Tuning machines are waiting for me at the post office and the bridges should arrive Friday.  :icon_thumright:

Seeing it together, I definitely think basic black is the way to go.  It'll blend perfectly with the binding and inlay, and any of the flashy pickguard options would actually take away from the overall look in my opinion.

Personally, I'm now even more inclined to suggest getting an HH strat pickguard and the official double neck pickguard to see what they both look like in person before deciding.

I was leaning towards the double neck black pickguard with red beveled edge. I have black hardware to "test fit" the looks this weekend.

Anyone in the group ever used a Schaller (475) 3D-6 guitar bridge? I was wondering if the extra 3mm shim that's provided is needed for Warmoth builds.

Sorry haven't updated lately, decided to make the body gloss. Shot with a couple coats of gloss and waited a few weeks before I sanded out the orange peel with 2500. Polished the back of the axe with Meguiar's #9 to test.  Damn phone won't let me upload pics. Looks great so far. Tease... I'll try to upload with laptop later tonight.  :occasion14:

Some pics of the polished front. Still have to do some wet sanding of the necks. May get to assemble later this week!  :turtle:

Wow, looks great! I do like the red outline on the pickguard  :icon_thumright:
Indeed, great job on that gloss! And the red outline should be even more dramatic when the film is removed and you see the deep black of the guard! Very nice.....

Thanks for the positive comments!
Qu: The bevel of the pick guard has a lot of machine marks. Does this kind of plastic respond well to sanding?

It's fairly soft, so start with higher grits, like 320, and go up from there.
