dots or no dots

i'm debating whether i should've had dots on my neck order. i'm used to having only side dots but i've come to realize that the front inlays are important when teaching others, and now that i think about it the cream ones would match well with the cream pickguard..... whadda ya think? which looks better?

(the difference in pickguard color wasn't intentional, turned out different when i was editing the image)

i've gotten used to it from classical and my current ibanez has side dots only. so that's one for dots...

I don't have face dots (or anything else) on most of my guitars. I find the side dots to be sufficient for keeping me honest.

y'know i think imma go with the cream dots since i already have an electric with no inlays. the dots will be useful in band situations when i have to show the guys what i'm playing, as well as for potential teaching gigs. just hope it's not too late to call warmoth and ask...

It's clearly too late since it's probably shipped by now, but it looks better with the dots.  Blank fretboards, especially on electrics, weird me out. I get that the more unobstructed wood there is the easier it'll resonate, but from a purely visual perspective they look empty. A more high falutin' artys-fartys type might say that it was a blank canvas waiting to be magic'd upon, but you're asking for dots which are a standard, function-over-form, design choice. As a design function dots work and work well.

It depends on the guitar and personal preference. (On this design I prefer dots, on others I may not )

Some would also say that if you are looking at the dots on the fretboard when playing they are a crutch and thus are not working that well. It depends on your viewpoint.

Myself, I want position markers. On stage in dim lighting, side dots I find basically useless. A lot of my playing is at church, so think cover band.  No idea of a setlist until a week out. Could be a totally different key. This week I'm playing lead on a song that I have played 4x before,but all those times on bass and in 3 different keys.
The instrumentals I tabbed out. Oh and I have to use a capofor the correct sound due to the different key. Dots allow me the ability to know where I am starting. Sort of like a kickstand for a bike. 
On acoustic I find no need as I'm within the 1st 5-7 positions.  Finding the 17th fret on the fly to start a song on electric though on a song you haven't played before (lack of muscle memory) , I'm glad I have dots.

I agree. That's why my next neck shall have glow-in-the-dark side markers.

If you're using it to give classes, dot on the fretboard. It is really difficult to find what someone is doing on the fretboard without the reference of the dots

Side Dot Only are my preference, perhaps a 12th fret one on occasion, but I don't think any of the Warmoth 7 string necks have that option as the Super 7 inlays lay on the edge, basically becoming a side marker as well.

Memory isn't serving too well on this, so perhaps Aaron can chime in.  I'm not sure if 7's can be ordered "side dots only".
