Don't you hate it...

This is starting to smell like a "hey guys, can you help me ($$$)?" thread.

Not at all. It just isn't fun when other expenses take priority over guitars. I think I'm getting a new laptop soon, though. Shopping now.

If the ram check came out clean. It might not be a horrible idea to reformat and reinstall the OS/etc. Getting a clean start every now and then can smooth things out a bit.
+100.  If its acting OK now, get your goods off to an external and plan to reformat.  It sucks and takes an afternoon but it's good for cleaning out the accumulated clutter.

Actually, in an unexpected twist, my parents are giving me $300, and lending me $200 for a new computer. After 4 years, it may just be time to upgrade.
I hate reinstalling everything, so I'll see what can be done with my current computer, but within a week or two, I'll show you guys my new Warmoth Addiction Device.

I don't think this is the problem, but you may want to look anyway.

I'm not sure if I can check the RAM. I would check it on my computer, but I can't start it up  :sad1:

"ramprobe" or "memtest86+" are both good ram test programs

Google them and they'll be easy to find.
They run in DOS either off a floppy or burn an ISO to make a bootable CD.
