A customer said the neck I changed for him is reacting to the plush material in his guitar case and picking up furs being stuck to it.  First time I hear this issue.

Or it could a problem with his case lining where glue leaked out.  I've had that.  Fixed it with a piece of felt, glued in very carefully to cover the offending part.  I've also had it with guitar stand rubber, after 20 years the rubber decays and a starts adhering to the guitar.  Again, just wrap some felt over it.

What he said.  Gloss finished necks are poly.  That's a finish that's unlikely to break down and start attracting 'fur'.  I suspect buddies guitar case is breaking down, but I know it's hard to tell the customer that...

I fine sanded out the fur and re-polished again with compound to a smooth gloss.  My customer brought it back again after laying it over a felt cloth.  Here is a shot of the neck....  First time in over 30 odd years with Warmoth finished necks !!!

I am curious is that felt cloth part of the guitar case?

Perhaps the cloth itself may be the culprit?

The neck initially picked up the fur from the case lining. After I sanded and polished, the owner laid a shoe polishing flannel cloth over the neckrest of the case since I told him the paint is Poly and not Nitro from advice here. Strange how the finishing got stuck to the furry material again. The Warmoth body is unaffected.

I'd guess there is something wrong with that batch of finish.
Yup, I think so. My guess is they might have ran out of poly and used something else. The finishing was perfect out of the box until a few month ago.
