Does anyone else have a problem writing a long post?

Yeah really the reason I don't use Firefox so much at home but I use it at work is that on my desktop at home it takes forever to start compared to IE, and it seems like Firefox is always bugging me to update something.  I don't have a lot of virus problems or popup problems with either browser.  They seem pretty similar to me, so I just go for the one that starts faster.  I always use Firefox at work though because the version of IE has a bunch of weird preferences on it that my boss put there that mess with my Rhapsody account.

I'm not really one of those people that has to have absolute control of every little function on the computer though.  My uncle is, and he's always going on and on about using certain programs over other ones, but I really don't care as long as it basically does what I need it to do.

I got used to firefox before IE started to respond to the changes FF was using, such as tabbed browsing. I remember IE when you could only have one tab running
I stick with FF because it is always 6 months or more ahead of IE in features, but that is part of it being open ended I think as someone is always adding to it and letting the FireFox Org know about it and boom we have the options available to us.
Now sometimes it does bug me to update for features I see useless, but then last week it updated to being fully tied in to facebook, not my cup of tea but I know a majority of the guys are facebook fanatics so that is nice that the browser can link into automatically to a feature that is almost a requirement in social networking.
Will I use it? NO.

Just a few thoughts about why I like FireFox. PS I think Firefox had tabbed surfing 2 years before IE

6 months ahead? Closer to 6 years. Hell, there was 5 years just between IE6 and IE7, which is when MS finally offered tabbed browsing, after being the only browser on the 'net that didn't have it. IE is the buggiest, slowest, largest, most insecure, non-compliant and unstable browser extant, bar none. Nobody else even comes close.

That said, it is better than it used to be, but that's like saying it's better to get shot with a .38 than a .45 - you're much better off just not getting shot <grin>

On a side note - and please accept my apologies for going a bit off topic but it's kinda relevant- is it possible to do a spell check on your comments before you commit to posting on a Thread?

I think I had that facility on a earlier version of Firefox and an earlier version of this forum but since then I haven't been able to spell check. Given my stumpy finger tips and thin keys on this @#&*^%%! keyboard I make a heap of typos and spend a fair bit of time correcting goofs before I commit to a Thread...  :help:

If you're using Firefox, under Edit->Preferences->Advanced there's a tab called "General" with a checkbox in the "Browsing" section that says "Check my spelling as I type". Make sure it's checked.

I can tell from these comments that you take your browsing far more seriously than I ever would.

AdBlock Plus is also an awesome addon to Firefox.  I wasn't even aware that Youtube had adverts until I went to a friend's house and wanted to pull up a vid.

Not really. Browsing is browsing, and except for IE most browsers present few surprises. But, I do take security seriously, unlike some software companies on the upper west coast of the US.

That, and NoScript. Indispensible.

Be aware that NoScript may drive you nuts for a while until it learns where you normally hang out and gets some information from you about what should be allowed or not. It's absolutely amazing how many scripts some sites will try to run in the process of spying on you.

You must be using Windows. The only thing that works right in Windows is the BSOD, and even that's inconsistent. It should show up as soon as you turn power on <grin>

Yup. Although, I think they changed it in Windows 7 to a Red Screen of Death. Or, maybe I'm thinking of their other gaming machine. Dunno. Don't use the stuff anymore. Took many, many years, but I finally learned my lesson.

So, Cagey, you reckon that's the only redeeming feautre for Windows OS?  :laughing7:

No, it makes for a helluva gaming machine. There's also some fine audio production and graphic/drawing software available for it now.

Max, I get some complaints about something not working under IE, I check every thing I write under FF, and I let guys know who say a website I wrote does not do this or is not alighned correct in IE, that they need to get rid of Ie and get a real Browser.

Ozzie, just got the latest update to FF 2 days ago and never have had a problem with spell checker, but then I am checking for English not Australian
