Do different reverb tanks make the difference between dark and light reverb tone

The reverb on my amp is very high in tone and I was wanting to make it a dark reverb tone. If I changed the tank would that change the tone of the reverb? I have a mesa boogie rectoverb 50.

I know there are long medium and short decay reverb tanks. If you swap one for another perceived tone might change. I once swapped a long decay in for a medium and thought it was kinda darker. If the reverb in your amp is tube driven you may be able to sort of change the tone with a tube swap.

Changing tanks won't change the tone per-se.  It would be much better to mod the reverb recovery circuit to remove some of the high end.

But having a longer decay can make things seem somewhat darker.
