Deluxe 5 neck not fitting in Deluxe 5 neck pocket

I just received a finished body I’ve been waiting for for 4+ months. I had already received the neck for this project a couple of months ago.
The neck is not fitting in the neck pocket, it’s not even close the heal of the neck seems correct 74mm but the pocket is about 72.5mm. I really didn’t expect to have to sand that much. Is that normal?

Was there any paint? Post pictures. Can’t tell based on statement alone. Lots of pics

After acclimating to the house it’s a little better but it’s still not going to go in.

Have you emailed Warmoth? 1/16" seems outside what I would consider "normal" tolerances.

The pic of the neck looks like 71 to me ... How about an internal measurement from the bass side where there is no paint across the flat of the neck pocket. Also close up of the paint lip on the neck pocket.

if i had a nickel for every pocket on a painted body (from Big W or otherwise--looking at u GFS) that i needed to sand away paint build up, I'd have like a dollar (USD$), but then again with inflation these days nickels don't go as far as they used to, so i would actually want a dime per sanded neck pocket (minimum). its just good economic sense

Yeah, I concur with doctor B'rob, most likely a paint issue.

Yes you guys are mostly right. I had to sand it quite a bit and the paint drip definitely contributed a lot. I got it to press in but I’m thinking I might sand a bit more tomorrow I’m afraid it’s still a little tight and I don’t want to get a finish crack at the bottom corner. Thanks for the input guys! It’s my first build I’m a little stressed!

The measurement is where the zero is that old fashioned calipers is a little tough to read I’ve made the same mistake.

I called they said it was normal and I just need to sand it. One thing I would suggest to first time builders like me is to order the neck and body in the same order. If I had they would have sanded it and done a test fit.

It makes sense that Warmoth would set the tolerances so that the fit can't be too loose, since that would result in unusable parts.
