Decisions. I could use some help.

I like your way of thinking. Ill probably go browse around my local music stores lookin squier or mexis. This may be a stupid question, because im not really knowledgeable in this area, but how do i tell a mexistrat from a non-mexi strat without checking serial numbers? and actually, feel free to PM me with that. It would be much appreciated :D

I can certainly pm you more info if you'd like, but the serial number is the simplest way to check: anything starting with "MN" is Mexican.  There are a lot of other telling features once you get used to them, but that's the easiest.  Actually, there are a number of Squier series that rival or exceed the MiM guitars.  MiM and Squier guitars will accept Warmoth necks.  Do yourself a favor and check a few out.  You might find something that you really like.

MN are the 90s, MZ is the 2000s, not sure what 2010s code is atm.

Moar questions!
1. Im on a tight budget, and this would be my first building/modding job, so i really dont want to spend much on the "drawing board" guitar. Im thinking a Squier Bullet Strat, HSS with trem, would this be a good starting point?
2. (assuming i bought the bullet strat) would the "vintage 6 hole trem" that warmoth sells fit on it without having to drill new holes?
3. (also assuming i bought the bullet strat) Would the strat pickgaurd that warmoth sells fit on it? it should, but it doesnt hurt to check.

Current MiM use "MX"

Ummmmm has nobody mentioned "Screamin' Deals?" If your on a budget.

Personally I would reccomend taking a little extra time to pad your budget so as to get extra uber quality.
