Decal question, please help.

I'm going to install a waterslide decal on a roasted maple neck. I have sanded the headstock and applied Mohawk ez vinyl sealer.

I then sanded again.

My question is, can I apply the decal on top of the ez vinyl sealer on the headstock and spray lacquer over the decal, or should I put down a mist coat of lacquer. Then put the decal on?

If it’s a smooth flat surface you’re good to go. You don’t want any pores because the decal will show it.

I followed this tutorial and had results I’m very happy with, having never sprayed a finish before. I used stewmac nitro over bare maple i had lightly stained.
