Decal over satin finish

I have had many warmoth necks over the years but none of them required a finish. I am planning on ordering a satin nitro maple/rosewood neck. I would like to add a decal ( laser printer not inkjet ) and then perhaps nitro over the decal. I was thinking of using a rattle can version of nitro ( maybe reranch brand ). What are the steps and can this be done and will rattle can nitro harden over time. I know wipe on poly never truly gets hard. I have used tru oil and system west epoxy for projects and both get very hard. I’m guessing I just need to follow the water slide decal instructions and then spray a couple coats of rattle can nitro over the decal. I don’t care if the decal looks a little  raised, just want a hard finish and the decal to stay over time. I asked this question on another forum but never got a good answer. Please help, basic explanation would really help as well as I’m not a pro.

Thanks for the info ! Wondering about using solvaset as I have heard some say it works great and others not so much. Hopefully the rattle can nitro will dry hard.

main reason use solvaset is to made decal soft and set on uneven surfaces, this point is not use here on headstock.

but it has side effects of may made decal thinner and less sunny, so it no harm to try .

Time is enemy pf a decent finish. As almost anybody will tell you who's done it more than once or 5 times, patience is the only thing that works. You have to put the time/energy/money into the thing, or it's all a waste and you'll just end up disappointed and/or pissed off.

Here's a post from 9 years ago when I put a waterslide decal on one of my strats: https://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=17997.msg266285#msg266285

Still looks great 9 years later.
