Custom Soloist body

Let me see ... chrome, red and creme for pickups and black Floyd? Then I suggest you paint the neck in blue/green swirl.  :icon_scratch: ???

I'm pretty sure all these colors will tie in nicely. I got the red cover for a ''red hot'' pickup look, it can always be removed. Dont't have a conniption! :party07:

Hard to believe he doesn't like your color scheme. I don't see any problem there at all.

Here, here! :icon_thumright: :toothy12:

Whatever makes you happy is what you should do. You're the one who has to live with it. I might do it differently, but then I'm the one who has to live with my creations. There's no accounting for taste, so you're free to ignore convention. Look at Liberace or Kiss or Elton John or Alice Cooper. All did quite well for themselves while stepping out of the box.

I recently obtained a rather nice no name jackson style maple neck with mahogany board, how do I precisely sand it on each side to get it to fit strat neck pocket? Its 24 frets but when i lined it up it had room for the pup to clear, not by a whole lot bit it will clear. Should i attempt to modify this neck or save it for a jackson body? All i know is i want to play my warmoth now!! :cool01:

It depends how far off it is and your tolerance for misalignment. For me, any more than about .010"-.015" (<1mm) or so and I wouldn't try sanding it. It'll need to be milled. The odds of sanding it perfectly straight so it doesn't sit in the pocket crooked are pretty small. Better to save it for a body it'll fit.

I would attempt to widen the neck pocket before the neck for sure. Of course, the ideal option would be to get a warmoth neck, but ideal isn't always easy on a tight budget.

I don't have anything further to offer on making your square peg neck fit in the pocket, but a mahogany fingerboard?  I suspect you have lighter, reddish piece of rosewood there, at least in the absence of a photo (and a dna test, of course).

Yeah, Mahogany seems pretty unlikely. Too soft, too porous. Even with a robust finish I doubt it would last a year with a serious player. But, Bubinga is usually lighter than most Rosewoods, and it's harder than 9th grade in a Catholic school. Rickenbacker used it for many years as a fretboard wood, and it can have a reddish-brown tint to it.

Why would that be better? That sounds impossible. Its easier to make smaller than to widen the neck pocket. If I did that I might as well cut the heel all the way out and just bolt it on. :dontknow:

And I'm not sure why I said that but it's a mahogany neck with rosewood board haha :icon_scratch: I'm waiting on a Jackson kelly body and Jackson PC3 body so I will stick it on one of those! As for a Warmoth neck, I wonder how a goncalo alves neck would look on my orange body

It depends on how much thicker the neck is, but in any case of a neck being slightly too big you sand the neck pocket, not the neck.

I could be spouting B.S., of course.

No, it's actually easier, but it's still scary as hell. You can wreck the pocket quicker than you can say "dammit!" But, milling the pocket can be done by hand with a template, a pattern-follower bit and a router. Milling the neck would require a much more complex jig (even if you had a CNC machine), and ballsy as I am I wouldn't want to try it. Much easier to get another neck.
