Gentlepeople,

The bass has the color coat on it:

looks pretty good to me.  She says she'll finish clear coating this week - and then we get to build a bass out of it!

:headbang:

HOLY CRAP THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!! I WANT!!!!!

That's a very nice looking bass.

And I want to express my regret for having expressed myself poorly in my earlier post referring to the Girls and Guitars thread.  My aim was not to be a sleazy internet horn-dog, but to appreciate your bandmate's very presence in your band and in the discussion of guitars we all enjoy.  To be sure, the G'n'G thread was full of lots of drooling, and while it overlapped significantly with a lot of appreciation for talented musicians, there was a pretty frat-boy vibe to it.  My aim was to suggest that your bandmate - who is a real musician, and whose work I have appreciated when listening to Cornflower Blue - was an appropriate target for our musical admiration.  The fact that she is also physically good-looking is not lost on me, but it was not the main point of my comment.

Anyhoo - looking forward to hearing the bass once its decorative finish is complete.

Peace

Rush Limbaugh AND Al Franken want to know - what kind, specifically, of "bag" are we referencing here? :glasses10: :glasses10:

A few comments:

1)  That paint job is primo.  Tons better than your XII, which was awesome in its own right.  Kudos to her.

2)  Pictures of women on the internet... I have yet to visit a forum that doesn't say something.  I won't get into the whys, because it's a dumb discussion, but you knew someone would say something.

3)  I'm curious what clear coat you'll be using.

Gentlemen,

My bass player stumbled on this thread and here's a little exchange between her and I:

Bass Player: "Do you have a link to that thread?"

BP: "never mind.  Found it.  Interesting thread"

Mayfly:  "is that 'interesting' in a good way, or 'interesting' in a bad way?"

BP:
"Neither really...

It’s interesting b/c how does my ego respond to all they’ve said?!?  Am I buoyed by flattering comments, or angered by anything that could’ve been interpreted as sexist?  Would I be torn up inside if anyone trashed me or my design?

I chose these Buddhist (lotus and Om) symbols for my bass as a reminder to play without ego.  I have a tendency to compare myself (often unfavourably) to other players.  But what does it add to think that I’m better or worse than anyone else?  Just make the music, be present, find the joy and keep my heart and mind open.

Anyway, there’s the iconography of my bass artwork and a philosophical explanation of my reaction.  If you want to post this on the thread I have no problem with it.  There’s nothing there to make any of them blush - or me."

So there.

More on the bass assembly to come!  :headbang:

That's a really cool and unique looking Jazz Bass. It came out great!
I am also undecided on the pearloid pickguard, though.

BTW, what's the middle pot doing? Is that some kind of rotary pot for different sounds?

Yes.  And even with that paint job, it isn't flashy, which seems to fit the bass player's reasoning with her choices.  Her hot, hot choices.  Food for thought, a black pickguard could be more mono chromatic.

I'm really digging it.  Also undecided about the pearloid; it could be great with pearloid, black or white.  In some pictures, it feels disjunct from the overall feel, but in some pictures it looks good.  Overall, kudos to you two on a great concept realized.
