Cream Bound Black Ebony Over Curly Maple Warhead Neck

That neck looks amazing! I would love to do a guitar with no inlays but Im not confident how well I could play without the "training wheels". I have thought about doing black inlays on ebony......

Can't wait to see those pieces assembled.

You'd be surprised. I was hesitant the first time I did it, but I think all told it took me about 8 seconds to get used to it. I got a lotta years on the instrument, though, so your mileage may vary. Still, it's not as tough as you might imagine. The whole dots on the side and dots on the 'board is a sort of "belt and suspenders" sorta deal. I suspect I'd hve more trouble if the side dots weren't there than the face dots. I'd have never known that unless I went without the face dots.

Give it a shot. If it doesn't work out, it'll be an easier neck to sell than one that's been inlaid on the face. People here complain all the time that Warmoth doesn't build enough spec necks for the Showcase without fretboard inlays.

Ever since I got my first neck with no fretboard inlays, I've never looked back. I feel it really adds to the whole look and really shows off the fretboard well.

Now as for playing a guitar with no fretboard OR side-markers, it's something I will never EVER do. I tried a few acoustics that had neither and it was no fun! Even after I adjusted and started playing by ear, I didn't enjoy it one bit.

Now back to the topic at hand, being a bit inexperienced, build-wise, what does it mean to burnish the neck?

Ohhhhh, I thought it was something different. Thanks!
I actually have your tutorial up in another tab in preparation for a build I'm waiting on a neck for. (which I need to start a thread for soon)

Anywho, can't wait to see your build come together!

The reason I bought that neck without frets was so I could burnish the fretboard, which is impossible with frets on it. Did it on the L5S in my sig, and for someone else's fiddle as well. You get what looks like a finished fretboard but won't wear away and feels absolutely wonderful. This will be the first Ebony part I've done, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that turns out. It's a very dense wood, so it should be the best one yet.

The finished look on such a smooth piece of ebony is gonna be stunning. Adding the contrast of the ebony of flame maple is just gonna be icing on the cake.

Was awaiting that baby to get a neck.
What a top looking neck you got for her.  :icon_thumright:

She'll scream  :guitarplayer2:

I like it a lot. It's smooth, repeatable, simple. Twp point fulcrum. Roller saddles. Everything is either stainless or hardened. I'd use them a lot more and recommend them to anybody, but they're not easy to get.

I'm agree with you ; I have the tremolo 2000 on one of my strat... (56mm stud spacing) but i have to modify the pickguard.

This model have a Floyd Rose routing cavity and stud spacing ? Do you think this one is compatible with a Floyd Rose Pickguard spacing available from Warmoth ?

I can't say for sure. The other guitar I have one of these bridges on is a top-routed Strat, but I don't think I realized the bridge mount stud spacing was different at the time I ordered the pickguard, so I got one cut for a Wilkinson. I'm sure I just modified it to fit if it needed it at all.
