I am SOOO pumped on getting one of these new Jacksons:

I love that 80s style crackle finish.

Any chance that Warmoth could offer this as an offer? I would be all over it! It could have different colors like red/black or green/black and variations like that.

I don't know how hard it is to make these finishes, but aside from plain alpine white guitars with black hardware, I think this is my second favorite style. I've never owned one but I would love to have at least two in different colors  :icon_biggrin:

What you think?

Yeah I would swap those pickups out directly, my future plan is to have gold hardware and gold humbucker rings with EMGs  :icon_biggrin: if I get this one, that is.

Why I'm eager for this is because I would like a 24 fret guitar but I'm not sure if I wanna go with Warmoths extension style neck...

Black and cream zebras. But otherwise, very nice.

I think they blend excellent with the maple board. As I remember you just don't like zebras right?

I like gold hardware. But here I think it will be too tacky.

I'm currently making a Warmoth Soloist (Dinky really) with a 24 fret neck. There is some hardware in the mail from Germany but I'll hope to have it up and running in a weeks time. Stay tuned.

Hell yeah. Back in the day, I wanted one of these SO bad:

I always loved the black/red cracked 'volcanic earth' vibe.

Neo, I have this Dinky DKMG and love it. I picked it up on ebay for $200-ish (due to a ding on the rear of the upper horn) and was blown away by the finish
(its always wicked when something looks 8 million times better in-hand than it did in some pictures on the interwebz). Granted I haven't touched it ever since I built
my DM strat, but one of my favorite guitars none the less!

Back to the original topic... nothing to see here...  :icon_biggrin:

I have a close friend that picked up a late-80s version of the crackle finish Soloist, but his has different colors in the crackle. Like this one:
Model6-1.jpg

His has the Jackson Floyd bridge instead of the J6 like this one has.

I did a little wiring work on it and replaced the pot after he got it. Beautiful guitar and plays really well. Good choice Cederick if you can find one.

That tremolo is called the Jackson JT-6 and it is, without a doubt, one of the best tremolo's I've ever used. I have one in a box that I've
always wanted to get re-powder coated and build a guitar around it. I just need some disposable income...  :sad1:

The problem it that is has cream clashing with the white in the finish. The mismatching shades of white don't look good. It would work if the pickups were black and white.

It's still nice, overall, however.

I would have preferedd all-creme or all-white pickusp on that

The other 80s crackel finishes in this thread is absolutely awesome too! Especially those that tranfers from different colors  :hello2: :party07:

Unfortunately, in a stunning abuse of trademark law, DiMarzio was somehow able to lock up the dual-cream coil presentation. How they did it is a mystery for the ages, but that's water under the bridge. Now we have "zebra" coil PAF-style pups, which don't match anything. Unless, of course, you want to buy into one of DiMarzio's "designs". Not that there's anything wrong with their pickups - many of them are quite desirable. I just don't understand why they had to wreck everybody's fun appearance-wise. Seems pointlessly spiteful.

Yeah I'm familiar with that, and it always makes me =  :icon_scratch: :tard: :dontknow: when I think about it!

I'm not that big fan of creme color on guitars in general, but really... It's just so stupid hahaha

Carvin gets away with double cream. Then again, their pickups are distinctive enough that you couldn't possibly mistake them for anything else. That being said, what's stopping companies from doing non-traditional things with double cream?

Nothing, and that's how they do it. Carvin, as you mentioned, has a different form-factor to their pickups (12 poles as opposed to 6). Bill Lawrence does as well (blades vs. pole pieces). Apparently, it's only the PAF-style parts that DiMarzio was able to trademark. Never mind that it was already being done by others; the USPTO just awarded them the mark.

I'll tell ya - you can just about patent used toilet paper these days. There doesn't seem to be any oversight or research on anything.

Agreed. My Charvel Model 2 has the JT-6 on it. What a great design for a bridge. I've been hoping that the new Charvel lineup will feature this bridge again, or that they would license it for production to another company. It's too bad that it's gone by the wayside over the years.

I do love me some Jacksons, specially with maple board and a Floyd...But I just could never warm up to the crackle finish....But I do have one of the "Stone" finish Jacksons...
