Wyliee's Gecko is exactly what I'd build, honestly. I'm just a weirdo about basses, and I want to get a serious feel for something that's so personal. If I were going to trust any manufacturer, however, it would be Warmoth; especially assembled by such capable and respected hands. As a related (sorta) anecdote, we test drove my wife's car 3 times before we bought it, and we still went home to sleep on their final offer. Car dealers hate me. I'm just struggling with how a more modern (read: non P or J) bass will fit into my "voice." The lower notes already change the sonic dynamic of the music in such a fundamental way.
I'm going to be borrowing a G&L 5 that I'll play at a gig this weekend, and after that, I'm going to try practical applications of more modern builds. If I thought I could talk my wife into outright buying that Gecko, I'd meet Wyliee somewhere for lunch today, but she knows how weird I am about my basses. I would say that I'm pickier about them than I am about women, but that would be a huge understatement and would totally get me smacked.
