compound radius

So...i see that necks have a compound radius of 10-16" what exactly is this compared to a 12" radius?

the 12 is twelve the entire length of the fretboard. 10-16 starts at 10 at the nut and gradually moves to 16 at the end of the neck. So it's more curved on the lower frets - for comfortable chording -  and less curved by the higher frets - for easier bends.

Floyds work just fine with it.  I have one on one of my Strats.  Besides, Jackson USA necks are 12"- 16" compound and the Floyds, well you know.

The 10" radius for Floyds relates primarily to the nut, where the W is 10" anyway.

You have it correct; not the other way around.

I've read a number of times that the 10" FR needs to either be shimmed OR have the stock shim removed on the D a G saddles. I guess the D and G can be a tad too high... either that I've read that the eB and EA can be too low...  I know you can buy shims...  someone find out OK? hehehe

I used a FR on my "W" build and had no need to shim.....And the neck is a standard 10-16 compound..... :dontknow:

Yeah I think the difference in height has got to be very small - - but I guess for some people they can't get the action they like on the flatter boards.
