Greetings,

I saw a thread related to compound radius necks that had me wondering.....

Say for W's 10-16" compound radius.....

As I understand it, the nut has a 10" radius. For the 16" component, is it 16" at the bridge or a specific position on the neck?

I'm pretty sure 16" is the last fret, and at the bridge it's flatter. Someone did a calculation a while back and I believe they found that it's around 18" radius at the bridge.

Why do i think it was 18.46 or something like that?

18.5" all day.

If im building, its getting a compound. I only vary if the bridge isn't adjustable for radius, like the gotoh wraptail.

I ordered a straight 14 to match.

Straight 12" FTW.

I recently ordered a Schaller Floyd straight from them, and they give an option for a 16" bridge radius. Not too far off.

I recently refretted my old 1975 LPD, as well as replacing all the electronics and bridge / tailpiece. T'was interesting to learn how to set the radius on the bridge itself. Basically, filing/debrurring the string grooves in the saddle until the desired radius was achieved.

Wonder if companies make a 18-18.5" radiused bridge?

Not to my knowledge. You need to use shims.

A 10 - 14" compound which Warmoth does not offer or the 9-1/2" - 14" Compound Radius which Warmoth does offer will work perfectly with the 16" radius option that Schaller offers on the Lockmeister.

Most bridges with adjustable saddle height can made to fit a 18"ish radius

Many bridges non-adjustable radius/saddle height can also be modified to fit it; twice I've taken a t.o.m. style bridge with a stock 12" radius and filed the saddle notches just a little to match a Warmoth 10"-16" radius neck
