i was dragging my feet on my tele when my boss told me he had bought two warwick basses for 2 grand each!

then i thought "what the heck!" and ordered my tele.

so it is going to be a swamp ash body, maple/pao ferro neck with a graphtech nut and the gotoh sg38 tuners. (i hope the woods are a good combination tonewise).

i am also going for a tortoise pickguard (i would have gone for white if it had been a wholly maple neck) and chrome hardware (which i have not ordered the hardware yet).

i hope that is going to look good.

appreciate any suggestions you guys might have.

You're fairly solid into the "classic Tele material" realm with the swamp ash body and maple neck.  What pickups did you decide on?

not decided on the pickups yet.

neck could be sd 59 or sd pearly gates or sd seth lover.

bridge could be texas special or lil 59 or lindy fralin blues special.

this is my budget guitar - so i'll probably buy them used in ebay.

>this is my budget guitar

btw this is also the motive behind finishing the guitar myself.

it was either this or a dearmond sg. something i could take anywhere without worrying too much about damage etc. but i think this is going to cost atleast 3 times what a dearmond does.

will a tortoise pickguard go well with a truoil finished swamp ash body and a pao ferro fretboard?

there is something similar in musiciansfriend but it does NOT look too cool :

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Ash-Standard-Tele?sku=517885

but ofcourse this is a natural finish with a maple/maple neck.

any ideas?

how it looks to you is all that matters mate, I personally can't stand the tortoise stuff, but that's me.

I love Tortoise!  Goes with everything!   This is not a natural wood finish, but here is my Thinline with a Tort guard!

(Can't resist a shameless plug of my own work!)

that is one of the view I actually like :)
I love my 'aged' pearloid pg.. its really creamey
