Case for VIP?

So I know it's been discussed before, but I'm looking for a case for my VIP. I've seen the one SKB makes that has a PRS Custom 22 in the picture, but I wasn't sure if that would be a good fit or not. I don't want an open cavity case, cause I likeit to fit snug.
Anyone with a VIP have any reccomendations?
I'd like a Coffin Case, but they don't ship to Canada..

I have a Road Runner hard shell case that fits it perfectly.  I took it to my closest Guitar Center to fit it.

Last I checked, they weren't making that model anymore, but that could have changed since then. I'll see if I can find a model number. Maybe you can still find one on ebay.

Cool.
The music shops in my area don't stock many cases, so i can't take it in to be fitted. I've also considered buying one with uncut foam and cutting it myself.

I have a couple VIPs so I tried to fit one into an SKB1-66Pro case (normally for Strats). Judging by the dimensions it's off by and going by the dimensions published on SKB's site, the SKB 3i-4214-PRS would hold a VIP perfectly. Considering the VIP was originally a dead-nuts copy of the PRS Custom 22/24, that makes sense. Only problem might be that it's one of their better cases, and I can't find one for less than $250.

I have my VIPs in cases that don't really have form-fitting interiors, very similar to these. Very nice cases, and a helluva lotta case for the money ($99), although I'd warn you they're at tad heavy. Put a VIP in one, and you're looking at nearly 30lbs. On the plus side, it would be very difficult to hurt the guitar.

In any event, knowing a case for the Custom 22 would fit like an old shoe, you can probably dig around some other manufacturers and find something in between the two extremes I've shown above.

That's the SKB case that I was thinking of. I may spring for one, but there's so much else for me to put money into nowadays so it may be a while, haha.

If it was me, I'd buy something the guitar would fit into, even if wasn't quite what I wanted. Transporting a guitar in the wrong case might be risky if something traumatic were to happen, but transporting it with no case is guaranteed to cause damage. Even a gig bag beats the snot out of nothing. Then you could hold off on something as nice as the SKB until you were in a better position to pick one up.

If you're not flying with it, or on a bus tour, I'd just get a gig bag.  Levis seems to be pretty good.

Okay cool.
To take it to my luthier,, i just put it in the gig bag that my sterling Ray34 bass came in but its a bit roomy cause its a bit long. I hadn't even considered the gig bag option at first.

I've got one of those.  It's pretty posh!  Better protection that my other gig bags for sure.  Expensive though and I'm not really sure that it's worth it for casual use.

I suppose it's how much use it may get put to for a mono sleeve. I was thinking of getting one as most of the guitars I have are cased apart from a couple. One decent gig bag could be used in turn for which guitar I am taking in the back of the car. I live in a couple of places and so rotate them from time to time.

I use a Road Runner hard shell, model # RRME07.  The foam is a little snug around the body at first, so give it a little push in and then it will form perfectly around it.  I think I paid like $80 at Guitar Center for it, but that was about 6 years ago.

Gator makes a hard case that is sized expressly for PRS guitars that should be a good fit the VIP - it's called the PRS style and wide body electric guitar case.

As you may know, I got a Coffin case for my VIP:

It is a fairly tight fit but it works.  Too bad they don't ship to Canada.  Do you have an American friend that you could have it shipped to then meet them somewhere for lunch and exchange?  Or, is that against the law?

Actually, my coulsin works in the states, and she does that for us frequently.. Haha, I didn't even think of that. I really love those cases. For my BC Rich Bich, I have one that's made by Warwick that they called Casket Case, and it's awesome, but it's way too big for the VIP

Well, as it turns out, the SKB 3i-4214-PRS case will not fit a modern VIP. I just took delivery of one today, and it's a no-go. On the plus side, it will fit an old late '80s/early '90s PRS-style Warmoth VIP, so I don't have to send the case back.
