Caps

It's been said that a sucker is born every minute. I'm sure there's a corollary to that regarding relieving them of their money.
"a foole and his money is soone parted." John Bridges' "Defence of the Government of the Church of England", 1587. Or otherwise worded by Thomas Tusser in "Five Hundreth Pointes of Good Husbandrie", 1573.

(Sum fools can also look tings up on da inta'net!)

The romans already knew that it is up to the fool to be not parted from his money prematurely, hence their principle 'cavet emptor': it's up to the buyer to verify the deal is honest.

I have done several test in the lab and from a physics stand point they are all the same as far as functionality such as storage and filtering. Some may be more robust and cooler looking or even last longer but wont effect tone.

On the other hand, the ceramics are inherently noisy and susceptible to RF ..I only use ceramics 220pF and lower ..I will use poly dips for 470pF for example but I spend the cash for silver micah.

with all that said, I want the best if I can afford it. I think it plays a psychological game with the mind knowing you have the better made parts under the hood, a type of placebo thingy ..but if you must use a radio shack green dip over an orange drop from sprauge its not the end of the world; and in a blind test only a once ina centruy mozart might be able to pick out the frequency difference. Trutone did a blind experiment with opamps years back and industry gurus blindfolded could not tell what was what showing the old mods, and many current ones as well, on pedals was just a scam to consumers..

and I just bought a 10 dollar PIO vitamin Q for my beloved number one warmoth strat :)

Well I can't tell a difference, but his cat definitely can, just look at his little ears!

Talking about guitar electronics, I like this guy, he gives lots of theory, possibly too much, but I get the gist, and contrasts them to real life effects,

Unfortunately this placebo logic works both ways and it leaves people who read mythological nonsense on the internet believing that they are missing something if they don't spend lots of money on something that in the real world offers no benefit.

And the fact that so many people aren't particularly technical and almost no one does proper objective testing leaves them extremely vulnerable to exploitation.

I use orange drops all the time over ceramic simply because they look cool and not too expensive.
Like mentioned before, tolerance is the key and I suspect / hope the expensive PIO caps sold might be closer to specs if they have been manually selected.
Might be better to buy a bunch of 3 cents ceramic disc and hand pick the ones with the right specs than to roll dice on a 10$ Paper in Snake Oil
With that said I had 2 guitars with PIO and they sounded great, not that the caps had anything to do with that.
