Yeah, i think some sort of cover-up is probably only reasonable option. Not sure about a decal, but some sort of chrome plate or something? I dunno.

Nobody mentioned the wet rag and soldered iron thing, I'm not accredited to describe, never did it, maybe can't because of finish, but somewhere in the back of my universe I recall a technique

My understanding is that works on bare wood by introducing water back into the wood. A painted body is basically covered in plastic-wrap, so I don't think this would work. But *shrug*

The thing is all guitars eventually get dinged up. It's all rock n roll patina so don't sweat it

Probably wont work through a poly finish, the steam won’t penetrate the compressed wood fibers.
