Can you paint and already finished/sealed Warmoth body?

I got my Warmoth Mustang body in a transparent, satin finish (they did an excellent job, BTW), but I find it clashes a bit with with laminate rosewood top. I was hoping to paint/stain the natural Swamp Ash body black (so it resembles some of the earlier model Chapman guitars).

Do you know the best way to go about doing this? Can I simply use a ColorTone Liquid Stain like the kind StewMac sells (http://www.stewmac.com/Materials_and_Supplies/Finishing_Supplies/Colors_and_Tints_and_Stains/ColorTone_Liquid_Stains.html)?

Do I have to strip/sand the satin finish or anything?

What is the best way to go about doing this?

Thanks a bunch!

You can't stain that now. You'd have to strip it, stain it, and refinish it. Since it's polyurethane that's not a trivial task and for as much trouble as that would be, I think if it was me I'd either learn to love it, or sell it and buy something that satisfies.

Personally, I think that's a beautiful piece. I wouldn't mess with it. But, I understand how sometimes you just can't bond with something. I have a metallic black cherry finished carved top tele here I just can't get next to. Looks great, plays/sounds great, lotta people like it - in fact, it's been sold twice or three times now, but it keeps coming back in trade for one of my Strats. Poor thing can't seem to find a home.

I hear you. Thanks for the honest answer. I think I'll just leave it as-is.

Or maybe sell it on eBay. Holla if anyone needs a Mustang body w/ a TOM bridge route!  :headbang:
