Can I spray Watco Clear Gloss Laquer over raw Padauk?

Can I spray Watco Clear Gloss Laquer over raw Padauk? My intention is just a quick spray over my Warmoth Padauk head stock to achieve a clear gloss to match  the gloss on my beautiful  Warmoth amber quilt Maple burst gloss Alder body. I see the Padauk is somewhat open grained. Thank you.

Never done it with padouk but have done it with oily woods like teak and rosewood, first I wiped thoroughly with naphtha, and 15 mins later put on polyurethane.  No problem, though I just could have been lucky.  Of course lacquer isn’t poly, or danish oil or tru oil, but it worked and didn’t need to spray.

Rick's right - the wood needs to be thoroughly cleaned before you put anything on it due to its intrinsic oils. But, acetone will probably work better than naphtha for that.
