Hi,
my name is Chris. First I want to say helo, and then ask a few questions :)

Im building soloist for the first time and i need small help from you guys.

I want to build my 'guitar of life' with this specs:
Body: Machogany, flame maple on top, carved
Neck: 24, 6150 frets, birdseye maple fingerboard with abalone dots
H-H. wilkinson bridge, schaller locking tuners, gold hardware

and finally my questions:

1 What is the finish of that guitar: http://www.warmoth.com/gallery/images/soloist/shane_jones_lrg.jpg (awesome  :icon_tongue:)
2 Will 720Mod work with this guitar?
3 Whether warmoth plans to enter music-man type heads?

Thanks and greetings

First, welcome to the Unofficial Warmoth forum! Glad to have you here, and hope to share many tricks, tips, and techniques, as well as the results of our efforts.

As to your questions...

1. The finish on the guitar you cite looks like what Warmoth simply calls "green dye". There's a picture of it here http://www.warmoth.com/Finish/GuitarFinish.aspx over curly maple. I think the final coats are clear polyurethane.
2. The 720 mod isn't available on carved top bodies.
3. I can't speak for Warmoth, but I suspect in order to produce MusicMan headstocks, they'd have to license the design from MusicMan, assuming licensing is even available. It may not be, or it may not be necessary. Finally, I don't know how much demand there is for those, but judging by what I've read here, it's small. Yours is the first post I've seen ask about them.

The finish looks like an emrald green dye.  The best thing to do is look at the showcase pictures and if you see the colour you like then you will know what to ask for.

I don't think the 720 mod is compatable with carverd top guitars.

I don't think Warmoth offers or plans to offer the Music Man peg head as I think there are some legal constraints.

Thanks for lightning fast responses.

1 Actually it is green dye finish :)
2 Ok, now i read about 720mod more closely and it isnt compatible with carved top
3 Is there a chance to send to warmoth my favorite headstock diagram and ask them to cut wood?

I have one more question about locking tuners. There are great because you dont have to roll the strings, just cut, but what happens when I want to  tune my guitar one tone lower? You can do that normally?
Im asking because with normal tuners you have string reserve rolled on pin. With locking tuners you dont have string reserve.

I'm not sure if Warmoth will cut custom headstocks from your diagrams. Seems like I've read that they will, but there may be some caveats. They do sell paddle heads so you could cut your own.

Locking tuners will allow you to detune or retune to other tunings easily. By the time you bring a string to pitch, there's almost always at least a half-wrap on the peg, usually more. I don't think you could detune far enough for it to be an issue.

I found answer a few minutes after my last response in this topic. Warmoth will made custom head but only from precise diagram. Minimum charge is 45$ and it depends upon the complexity. I personaly think that for 'guitar of life' it is worth to take effort.

If I will have more questions I send them. Stay tuned :D

Sounds like a nice project. Me personally, I would get a flame maple board to match the flame maple top.

Everytime I see that guitar it takes my breath away.  It's like a beautiful woman walking into the room.

@Death by Uberschall-

Yes, that combination looks really great but I stay with mine conception. Thanks for the advice.
I played on Music Man Axis with birdseye maple neck and I was positively schocked. Looks amazing. Feeling is little bit different than mine present guitar because I have C-shape neck. Music Mans have little bit thicker neck in my opinion  :icon_smile:

@fdesalvo - holy words ;)

Always get what you want. We only offer up suggestions. I had a few members on this site tell me I should have gotten something else besides the maple board when I was listing out my order. Glad I got what I wanted.  :icon_thumright:
