build vs shop in stock from warmoth

I know that feel. I've been watching the RSS feed for months for a regular Strat body in Graffiti Yellow. Months without the guitar I've wanted, all to save $75 and a few weeks of waiting. Well the wait time has obviously been a wash, and the $75 seems petty with a few months of hindsight behind it.

Yep, that is a perfect example of something you will wait a looong time to see in the showcase; something that is possible to order in the custom builder, but not a common/popular color choice.

There are typically only a few scenarios where you would find things like that in the showcase:
1) Customer returns
2) Things we build up for a specific purpose (perhaps for a photo or video shoot), then put it in the showcase
3) Someone gets a wild hair and lists one for the showcase just because

Waiting for a combination of desired options to appear in the showcase is also a good example of how humans tend to over-estimate their odds. There are literally over a trillion combinations of options in our custom body builder. Don't ask me how I know.

Your odds are better buying a lotto ticket.

Odds of being struck by lightning are 1 in 3000 during your lifetime.  Increase the odds by running around the golf course in a storm.  Odds of finding the guitar you want in the showcase 1 in ?.  Increase the odds with a BTO.

Or, more precisely, eliminate the odds by going BTO.

"BTO" is what we call it internally, BTW.  :icon_biggrin:

Ha! Saw them open for Van Halen once. They got a pretty ruthless reception.

I saw 'em once about 100 years ago, when Bob Seger was still an opening act. He went on to become much more popular.

It feels like when I wasn't looking for one they were always available, but now that I'm looking to buy it's not around. Figures.  :dontknow:

I must admit, when looking at what Warmoth has in stock, I limit it to satin finishes, which is pretty limited, but hey, I really love the satin look on both colors and clears over a nice wood. Still wondering how a clear satin over quilt maple would look ;)

Not finding many, I am saved from buying another guitar body  :icon_biggrin:

I like colors. But I just can't bring myself to order a solid finish from Warmoth. If I'm going to the trouble, it's gotta be a wood finish.

I can do the dyes and the clears, but it's the bursting and perfect solid finishes I can't do.

I once saw a candy orange jazz bass that was soooooo purty. It's way down the list, so I doubt it will ever be, and Warmoth doesn't offer a candy orange. But if they did...

They offer a candy tangerine, which is about as close to a candy orange as you can get...

Pictures don't do their "candy" colors justice. I've owned a candy tangerine Strat, and have seen the candy red in person. Lovely stuff.

No....but you could spec one BTO, and have it in only 6-8 weeks.  :icon_thumright:    :icon_jokercolor:
