We've played many shows with our Bose L1 towers, but I was getting tired of stringing all the cable runs. Each tower has two balanced mic inputs, two unbalanced inputs, and a seven pin MIDI cable for the remote control. All of these must be strung with long cables to the mic stands up front for use. It's a PITA for each show.
So, I thought one day that it would be great if Bose had a snake that was tailored just for the L1. Instead of waiting until I grew old for Bose to make one, I whipped one up myself.
Here's the start:
We've got 30 feet of Radial 9 pair snake cable, an off-the-shelf Hammond box, some heat shrink, and a bunch of nutrik connectors. The connectors are from Mouser, the cable direct from Radial, and the box I just had lying around.
Here's the floor box with the holes drilled and the female connectors mounted. The strain relief is a 240VAC item.
Here's the floor box with the snake cable installed and all the ends soldered. The MIDI connector requires 7 conductors, so I had to use 4 pairs of the snake to connect it. To avoid ground loops, the box is only grounded using the ground from the channel 1pair.
Here's the finished product - ready just in time for the show tomorrow night!
