Books on amps - recommendations?

I've been thinking at some point I'll want to make a DIY amp kit - seems to be the best way to get a blackface princeton or tweed deluxe for under a grand. Unfortunately, I'm pretty ignorant about amp details and electronics. Biasing for instance isn't something I really understand, but I know the difference between AC and DC, and resistor vs. capacitor, I think. What would be a couple of good books to get me started, that don't assume a lot of technical background?

It sounds like I have a somewhat better grasp of electronics than you, and this book is a bit difficult for me.  If you want to get it you should pick up some basic electronics book too... something that covers resistors, caps, diodes, transistors, tubes, and transformers.  If you have that knowledge this book is VERY rich in info.  Still quite dense.

It's all about the electronics though... has nothing about physically building amps, or anyway if it does I haven't gotten to it yet.
