Body Weight = ? Build Weight

Just curious if anyone has ever weighed all the parts (minus the body) for a typical build?

I see so many different weights of bodies in the showcase section, but am never sure how much specific parts weigh. The goal is to build a Strat right at 8lbs (I play Les Pauls mainly in the 9lbs range). I'm curious what body weight I should start out with.

I built a chambered Strat using three humbuckers...the body before paint weighed 2.1 pounds, and the entire guitar weighs 6.8.

So, assuming you use three humbuckers and sperzel tuners on a rear rout body, the neck and hardware might be around 4 to 5 pounds.

For an eight pound target, figure a body of near three to three-point-five.

I would say add around 3.5 lbs if you're using typical strat components though- and the bridge block construction could influence that quite a bit.

+1

I bought a replacement trem for my strat a while back. I started out with an offbrand, and bought one that came out of an American-series Fender. The Fender block probably weighed an entire pound more than the no-name. It was MASSIVE. Literally.
