Heard some people say that the 1&11/16ths nut width just makes the big neck profiles feel way too big? This true?

About to order a neck for this fiesta red Tele, and I want big.

1 5/8 = 1 10/16. So, the overall difference in width between the two necks you're talking about is only 1/16", or .062, or the width of a heavy low E string. Spread that over 6 strings, and you're only talking a change in string spacing of about .010, or the width of a high E string. In other words, it's not that much. You wouldn't be able to see it by eye. I wouldn't sweat it, but people make decisions based on less than that.

thanks for the reply dude. I'm gonna go for the slightly slimmer, just for the hell of it.

Well, as I said, people make decisions based on less than that. It's amazing how much trouble a seemingly tiny difference can make. Think of the difference between putting on a set of .009s and a set of .010s. We're only talking about a thousandth of an inch on the high E, but it makes a familiar guitar into a strangely different beast. Change the neck width, the fingerboard radius, the scale length - all those things are only tiny changes. But try going from a Strat with 10s on it to a Les Paul with 9s on it. You'll be tripping over strings, missing notes, and fat-fingering chords like a newbie <grin>

i have said that 1-3/4 is very large, it takes getting used to. i dont think 1-11/16 is too big but fatbacks might be too big in general for some. lets look at other things, are you going to use the warmoth compound radius? it works best with a 1-5/8 nut but with a vintage trem on a strat 1-11/16 is also good. but a wide nut and wide bridge might bring the high e string too close to the end of the board at the higher frets for your liking
