Binding: a simple task?

I rowed through dozens of 100-hit Google pages looking, plus the image pages, and couldn't find a single Strat headstock that had been bound. If anybody's ever done it, it's a well-kept secret. Closest thing I could find was where the face was painted one color, while the sides and back were another. Even bound necks aren't very common for some reason, but at least those exist. Of course, Google isn't the ultimate authority, but they're pretty thorough about indexing what's on the 'net.

I thought some older Pensa-Suhrs or Tom Anderson guitars had a very similar Strat style headstock with binding? :icon_scratch:

If you're asking me, I don't know. If you know of an example, post a link. I'd be interested to see what a bound Strat-style headstock looks like. Probably pretty sweet, I'd guess, but I'll bet it would be expensive as hell.

use a stewmac binding router attachment for your dremmal, worked great for me.. you will need to heat the binding for the real sharp curves but I think it should be quite doable, practice, practice, practice first...

Have you done lots of binding before? (Seems so from your pic.) I have a Dremel type tool, and stewmac's website seemed to say it wasn't a horribly complicated task . . .

I've done it once .. Did a lot of practice..  not hard at all.. see it all here http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=13205.0

I have a question, if you really want a strat neck with binding, could you not buy a blank angled neck, cut a strat type shape replacing the inner curve on the bottom with a hard inner point and do it that way, it would get you the look you are going for. make binding it  a lot easier as it would have no hard angles or compound curves that would not be able to bind without piecing the binding.
Just a thought, I am a nube.
