I think he is a big tinkerer. I've talked to him a couple times regarding Warmoth parts, and he is about the nicest guy you could ever want to meet.

Yes! I've watched all his interviews at Masters Of Shred and he's the best guy ever! And an 80s legend!

I checked the DiMarzio Relentless pickups. They have Jazz Bass versions too.
This summer or the Fall, I'm making a Warmoth Jazzmaster Bass IV with jazz bass pickups. I'll get these pickups for it.
I remember when I was rehearsing with friends many years ago, one time we used a Yamaha bass in one of the studios and the sound was so good! Nowhere near all the basses we had tried so far. It was tight, with a cool mid punch, super cool bass sound. These pickups reminded me of that.
