Seagull is indeed a Godin brand, as is Art & Lutherie, and Norman.  Those three are lower-end than Godin, but Seagull was good enough for Kim Deal back in the day:  :headbang:

Another vote for Seagull, although a Taylor GS mini, or 214 would be pretty nice to.
 
I don't know much about the Yamahas in the $600-$1K  range, but I do know this:

Anyone looking for a first acoustic in the $150-$400 should always try a Yamaha.
I don't think there is anyone who makes a better guitar in that price range.

And while Fender and Ibanez make decent electric guitars, their acoustics in that price range are no match for the Yamahas in terms of build quality.
