I've been telling people that Sublime ripped off Lady Madonna since high school, but these other ones are pretty crazy too.

Shouldn't you be writing songs Instead of blogging?

I'm up to 8 new songs now...

Sublime ripped off the Beatles, I'm sure the Beatles ripped of someone else.  The cycle continues.  I'm up to 1 song.  My previous song rripped off Pachelbel's Canon.

I've started 13 songs and finished 7 of them so far.  And yesterday I just did improv with my loop station.  I didn't write on Friday though because I was at the beach all day and evening, unless you count the ridiculous 30 second robot song my friend and I made up.

If that's ripping the Beatles off, good luck ever writing anything "original."  Lady Madonna was within the realm of, "hmm, interesting," but the others were a huge stretch.  Considering how few original chord progressions there are (that support melody which people find tolerable), you could mash up many songs from many sources.  Don't fall into the trap of "being too original," or you'll ignore aspects of your own voice, which are inspired by your life experiences.  The trick is to find ways to speak in our own voices, using the language we've learned, and to say something meaningful (to someone).

I second that. If you start worrying about who ripped off who, nobody could take credit for anything. There's no such thing as an original idea, because everything that you can conceivably "create" is really just a combination of elements that you have taken from your own life experience - sometimes it's more or less abstract but at the end of the day that's all it really is.

All I did was point out some similarities.  I'm not saying it's good or bad.  Though the Lady Madonna thing has always bugged me because it's almost the exact same melody and yet people told me I was crazy when I said they were the same.

While I don't think these guys were pilfering the others, it is a really fun listen...
