Banggood for guitar parts?

I buy a lot of parts from banggood. Mostly stepper motors, rails, stuff like that. I just realized they have a guitar parts section.

The interesting part is the fret leveling stuff.

Stuff like this for $15?

abrasive erasers. radius sanding blocks. Not a ton of stuff. But what's there is cheap. If you're looking to do your own leveling and what not this might be a decent place to get your starting kit.

Their steppers and led screws are peachy. 0 idea what the guitar parts are like.

I take part of that back. I can't vouch for the stepper motors. I think I ended up getting mine from amazon.

I already have a site like that for guitar sorts of things, but the linear actuators, slides, rails, steppers, etc. are very interesting. I wanna build a precision fretboard scanner/marker for measuring neck/fretboard geometry and fret height and marking the anomalies for attention. Write a little control and sensing code, and end up with a jig I can just drop a neck in and take it out a minute later with all the areas needing attention marked. Maybe generate a little report, just for fun. I need to find a super-sensitive non-contact way of sensing the surface, perhaps a laser interferometer of some sort.

That's a really cool idea. I had the thought of making a fretboard specific CNC. Hard to locate those 0.023" router bits. Three bit changes and you could go from leveling one side, cutting the fret slots to roughing in the radius.

Can't locate a small enough spindle. Think I'm going to savage a dremel.

I like that idea, too. But, you can buy pre-cut fretboards that are close enough for rock 'n' roll. Why make them yourself? Unless you wanna pull a Warmoth and use exotic materials that others don't offer.

I don't want to do any machining, at least not at first. Get the thing to behave itself just looking around, and I can go from there scaling it up and giving it some teeth.

Also, did you see some of the X/Y/Z table lasers and whatnot they have? This little lovely...

... already does 3 axis and comes with everything you need except electricity for $195. It's not big enough to do what I want to do, but for proof of concept that's an awfully inexpensive little test bed that'll do half a neck as it sits.

That one's got a 5500mW laser on it to do engraving with. Pretty cool.

It'll happen. It's been on the list for a while, but it's moving up.

Sounds like you need a partial Plek machine Cagey for doing the measuring stuff.

That's what I was thinking - that what Cagey wants to build is a PLEK machine Light! :icon_biggrin:
