We are now announcing the August, 2019 Guitar of the Month contest!  August's contest will be "Warmoth/professionally finished" and requires at least a Warmoth neck or body to qualify.

Please read the GOM rules, which have been refined, with some slight changes, and are posted in a sticky in this forum area.

Submissions must be sent to uwfgom@gmail.com, and contain two images no greater than 1024x768, along with your description and details of the instrument.  Send your submission in plain text email.  Your photos must be attachments to the email.  Your UnOfficialWarmoth Forum user name must be included in the body of the email.

In turn, your images will added to this message, which is August's submission thread.

Submissions will be accepted until exactly 7 days from the date and time of this post, so get your cameras clicking!

As usual, discussion about the submissions can take place below.

Please do not post additional photos in any replies to this thread.  Links to other UW threads or external sites are fine.

Please try to stick to the entry requirements:
Two 1024x768 pixel images maximum as attachments please, not embedded in the email or linked to external sites.

An image for the purposes of this contest is a single photograph, not a multiple image/collage.

Include your UnOfficialWarmoth Forum user name.

Warmoth or other professionally finished instruments only this month.

Sorry, but entries that do not meet these requirements may not be included in the contest. If you're having technical difficulties, get in touch!  (But only about contest entries please!)

Good luck, and may the best guitar/bass win!

That's what I thought last month.  I turned out to be very very wrong.

But yeah, that first entry for this month is absolutely stunning.

And this is why we don't just call it a day when the first one down the chute is as beautiful as aguyinaustintx's axe... along comes BigSteve22 to make it a plausible contest.

aguyinaustintx, are you planning on showing that off on a stage on 6th street or at an art gallery?  Either or both would be appropriate.  Beautiful work!  This is what inspires us to keep building.

BigSteve22, Yours is sweet as well!

Yowza, what a couple of beauties!

As an aside, I have a glass-topped desk very similar to the one in the picture from the guy in Austin, second thing I thought (after "WOW!") was "I wonder how long it took to get all the fingerprints and smudges off for the pictures". That's some clean glass! I'm going to go out on a limb and say there's no toddlers or dogs around.... (edit for clarification: no snark was intended there; striking pictures of a striking guitar, and a remarkably clean glass surface!  :icon_biggrin:)

Two beautiful ones already. One even has a special story.  :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

All, Thanks for the compliments!

Dano, The guitar will appear on stages in Boston. It's for my son, starting at Berklee College of Music this fall.

-VB-, Right-o, no toddlers or pets!

In case anyone is interested, here's the "Work In Progress" post, mostly on the trials and tribulations of building without having a control cavity cover:

Lots more pix, and info.....

@aguyinaustintx,  I did check out your build thread and it tells a very cool story!  Lots of good input from fellow forum members!  Great solutions to the pot and switch height issues.

So glad you were able to make the knobs and pickup covers come to fruition as envisioned.  The figure lines in the pickup covers matching the Pau Ferro fretboard patterns are a real nice touch.  You certainly paid attention to every detail in this build and it shows big time!  As I said before, Inspirational!

I have not bothered to post build threads in the past, but having reviewed yours and some others, they almost all have some lessons learned in them that will be helpful to all.  I will try to post my builds in the future.

Want to see the value of a build thread, and how much help other forum members can be in collaborating with the builder to help solve problems and / or encourage the builder through trails and tribulations of the process?  Take a look at the build thread of Rgand with his August 2018 GOM and 2018
Guitar of the Year!  I know in this case I am pretty late to the party, but still very impressed!

Again "aguyinaustintx", great job and beautiful outcome!

Thanks, Dano! I sure learned a lot from the posts on Unofficial Warmoth. It might not be apparent, but a lot of that knowledge was incorporated into the build.

David King (dknob.com) made the pickup covers, knobs, and TRC. He normally runs the grain of the covers 90 degrees to the neck for added strength, but he accommodated my request to run them with the neck grain. He matched the pau ferro board for this project. I thought about leaving them unfinished, but decided to finish them myself using spray can poly.

Speaking of stories, please read the story behind BigSteve22's guitar,  "Amy". A beautiful guitar and a lovely story.

BigSteve22, I checked out your build thread and Man, how nice!  What a beautiful guitar and what a sweet story.  I lost my mom last February and all I did was plant a tree in her name.  It was a very nice thing that you did and you will remember her and your grandmother each time you pick her up.  Nothing against John Lennon, but anyone who sees the guitar and hears the story will appreciate this a lot more.

I really like the decal on the headstock and the pick guard is killer as well.  Everything came together fantastically well and is a really nice guitar.

Also glad to hear there does exist a case that fits a Mooncaster so well.  Thanks for putting that out there.

Good luck to you and everyone entered in the contest this month.  They are all fine specimens!
