assembling question...

Hey, so I'm a complete noobie when it comes to building guitars. I have a few dream guitars that I want to build someday but until then I want to try my hand at just making a good solid, somewhat cheap, telecaster.

My main question is, if I'm finishing/assembling a guitar do I have to worry about leaving the neck and the body disconnected? So, for example, if they're not at tension will they warp and change shape drastically? I don't see why they would but I'd rather check before I lose out on a couple hundred bucks.

Also, would it be unwise to buy the neck and body separately? I'm low on cash so I'll probably do everything slowly over time.

I'm probably just going to start on a cheaper GFS kit to practice finishing and setting up, until I can get started on a few hundred dollar warmoth dealio. Hopefully that's a wise move...

You will need to adjust the truss rod seasonally, or at least initially, in most cases, but that's about it.

Some parts sit in Warmoth's inventory for years before anyone buys them. Buy your parts whenever you want, and assemble them whenever you want.

As long as the neck & body are made to the same specs there's no worry about time frame.  I paired a 93 MIM Fender Strat body with a 2009 Warmoth neck.  Showcase too, so it could be older.

Necks without strings only need the truss rod slacked and it won't be exerting pressure.  When it's time to mate it & string it up, tighten the rod, screw it on the body, then enjoy! (and minor adjustments after that of course)
