Anyone tried to shield an old Fender J-Bass pickup like this?

Do you think it´s gonna help to get rid off the sinlgecoil hum?
Anyone tried it?

I've worked on a couple Lull basses that had J pickups shielded like that. I prefer to shield the cavity instead
