Another Radii Question

If a bridge with a 12" radius is used with a neck that has a straight 10" radius, would one even notice the mismatch?

In most cases I would say no.

I mean, provided the guitar is properly set up otherwise, a 2" radius difference should not be a hindrance when playing.

I did the math once... if your low E is set to about 4/64ths and you high E is set to about 3.5/64ths, your going to be about .5/64ths high at the D and G.

I tend to notice that, but others... I dunno... depends on the player.  The fix is easy, just file the saddle top a little, re-notch... good to go.

Sorry - I think you got the wrong way around here. Using a 12" bridge on a 10" neck would make the middle strings closer to the neck if the outer E's are adjusted like that.

Once again, thank for the answers.

I have about 5 guitars that I'd like to build and I going to have to narrow that down to one.

The neck is the thing. Spend your time and money there. Lotta tonal influence, and you gotta be comfy, too. After all, the neck is what you play. Then, go to school on pickups. Even more tonal influence. Past that? Do whatever you want. It'll have little effect.

well other than the electronics which will make the most difference is actual sound output, but if your playing on a crappy neck your playing might suffer. but don't think money and sound quality have a relationship. there are lots of good cheap p/ups. the right neck and the right tone inspires your playing. so finding the right combo of feel and pickups will make all the difference.

about the radius i once did the math as well. but in different units. can't remember the numbers but it's enouh to feel (fingers are sensitive) but not enough to totally kill the playing experience. on the other hand making everything right will make you love the guitar that much more. it's not too much difference to file out.
