Another ever-repetitive pickguard colour thread

yeah i don't really get how anyone could find tortoise-shell to be that bad in any context. Maybe not on light blue, but just in general?
Sometimes, you just get sick to death of something. I remember that happening to me as a kid with Cheerios. Ate 'em nearly every day for years, then one day for no apparent reason they just started tripping my gag reflex. Haven't tried to eat them since. Same thing with cleaning products and lemon. Why all the sudden 20 years ago or so everybody and their brother decided if their concoction didn't have lemon in it, it just wasn't good enough. Of course, it's an effective way to cover up a multitude of nasty smells, but still.

Fender has been pushing tortiose-shell since forever. Even their picks use that design. It's as common as dirt, and has been done to death. I can see how someone might develop an aversion to it.

My vote goes for the last one. Chrome parts, white scratch plate, white pup covers. Black pup covers don't look bad in these mock ups but I don't like how they look in real life. Also, I wouldn't go for a neck that doesn't have position markers. If anything, I would take this one and put abalone markers on it.

I Really like Pearloid on sonic or daphne blue, but I guess that has by now become a but of a cliche too..

Why you hate the tortoise so fiercely.  Did you have a bad tortoise experience in you past? :occasion14:  How do you feel about anaconda?

Not sure if this was for me but I'll answer anyway ;)

I just don't like vomit brown plastic, simple as that. It reminds me of many other objectionable things in life - leather clad furniture, dark window curtains, brown wood details on white houses, etcetera. Vomit is also ugly in its own right.

Hmm, seems to be a healthy amount of support for everything so far, even the bizarre :laughing7:

Maybe I should just flog a kidney and buy one of everything...

Understood.  But, I wish my vomit looked as pretty as a tortoise' shell  :o Should I be choking down more jello salads for the desired result?

Well, one could go the deviously enigmatic route with a clear pickguard.

People will scratch their heads and go, "Right.  There's no pickguard... but something tells me otherwise."

Clear, in my opinion only seems like it would look good;  it's more reminiscent of those well-intentioned folks who put clear plastic covers on their couch cushions. Cheapnis
