So I joined this metal group that lost their guitarist a few weeks ago. You know..., to balance out the paying Texas Country/Red Dirt gigs with some pure fun C#-B tuned down chaos. Anyways this seemed like a good excuse to build another guitar. I'm going with a baritone scale this time. I just ordered a body to go with this piece of Koa that has been intriguing me for a while. I pulled the trigger on this piece today.

Going with a walnut body and the koa top with a maple pinstripe accent. I still haven't decided on neck woods. I know I want a canary fretboard with no inlays. I can't decide between Indian rosewood or wenge for the neck shaft. I'd like to get it ordered soon as well so hopefully they'll both come in around the same time.

For pickups I'm leaning towards a BKP Warpig in the bridge as it seems it would balance well tonewise. But I have to take the neck wood into account. Any thoughts guys?

Soloist and headstock will be reverse KL like my previous soloist. Haven't decided if I'm going to be lazy and have W cut it or order an angled paddle and do it myself again.

By the way, I think there is a poltergeist in your koa top. Either that or I have way too much time on my hands.

That's what I saw first - the nostrils and the dark line is the mouth. Then the other little face emerged as I was looking for the eyes.  :tard:

Nice koa! You obviously can't go wrong with either rosewood or wenge. Wenge is stronger though. Did you see dwiller's V with a wenge/canary neck? It's awesome. I like the emphasis it puts on the canary.

I did see his V. Love that contrast. I'm leaning towards the Wenge neck also for the balancing of tone. Being that Wenge seems more towards the middle and Rosewood is on the warm side. with a BKP painkiller bridge and Sinner single coil. However I do plan on checking out the Lace Drop n' Gain as a potential bridge choice.

I only plan to have only 2 positions on this guitar. position 1 will be the full bridge humbucker. position 2 will be the neck single coil and the slug coil of the bridge humbucker. I only ever use these 2 pickup configs in this setting so why over complicate it. I won't even have a pickup selector. I plan to use a push push volume pot to do the switching. Down will be position one and up will be position 2. So visually one volume knob. Simply with gorgeous woods is the plan.

OK I decided to go wenge/canary. Ordered a baritone angled paddle head with graphtech black tusq nut and SS6105 frets. Compound radius. no mounting holes (plan on modifying the neck heel joint again). No inlays. black side dots. I still haven't decided on the headstock design. I have time though....

Ok here's what I've got for the mockup of the baritone I've ordered pieces for.

Walnut/unique choice flame koa with maple white line
Wenge/canary neck with flame koa veneer cut like a Caparison from the angled paddle head I ordered.
BKP Painkiller and BKP Trilogy RWRP with 1 Volume push push pot for switching from bridge humbucker to neck single coil and humbucker slug coil.

I'm kicking around the idea of routing and inlaying a design (possibly a samurai or something related) using different woods into the back side of the walnut. we'll see once the pieces arrive. I also plan on modifiying the heel joint. I ordered both neck and body with no mounting holes.

Ken at Roadhouse (Or TroubledTreble 'round here) made me a set of seven string pickups that sound a lot like Nailbombs.  They are on a 27" seven string, and it sounds huge, but precise.  Another option (and quite a bit cheaper than BKP for us stateside) if you are interested.

That's a fine idea. However the new BKP's are sitting here all ready to go. I would like to give Ken's pickups a try one day soon.

It does look like that. But it's copying this one.
