So I spent the day making a "Shootout" video for youtube to show the difference between my Fulltone OCD and my Analogman DS-1.  It's mostly a gear nerd thing, I really wanted to show how well each pedal cleans up when you just turn back the volume knob.  Plus, it is the first video I've posted with my Warmoth playing distorted.  :-)

and yes.... I'm playing nothing but "Pull me Under" by Dream Theater.  :-)

check it out.

Out of curiousity, what amp were you playing through, and how much amp distortion did you have dialed in (if any)?

I think I liked the DS1 better, but then again this is not the style i usually think of as being the OCD's strongpoint. I think that pedal OWNS for any sort of remotely vintagey tone.

I'm playing through a 5150 head, into a Demeter Silent Speaker Cab, with a pretty clean tone.

Tones were close.

To me though, through experience with it, I find the OCD more "alive" and touch sensitive.

Both sounded kinda muddy to me in the video, probably the amp settings I guess.

The more I listen to it I really like the DS-1 better (and I've been using the OCD as my main distortion for the past year)

If you click on pedals right as the come in heavy  1:45 for the DS-1 and 2:35 for the OCD, instead of just watching it all the way through.  The DS-1 seems to have a bit more high end and more clarity.  The OCD sounds muddy to me now. :-)

I have a Rev. 3 (IIRC) OCD, and I've never considered it to be a distortion box, but rather an overdrive/clean boost.

I use it strictly for 60's - early/mid 70's rock tone... earlier Deep Purple with Ritchie (who had a pretty clean tone) comes to mind.

And yeah, the tone gets fatter the more clock-wise you turn the Drive knob.
