Aged or Burnt Chrome

Anyone ever "AGED-Antiqued" or Burnt chrome?  I would like to create an aged look to match what Bare Knuckles does for a new built.  Heat and/or Chemicals used??

That's heat blueing.  The only way to do that is apply heat - possibly with a torch.

I'd remove the cover before doing that.

Hmm, I have a spare cover, I should try damaging it horribly and see if it looks cool :)

I spoke to Bare Knuckle PUs then selves and the burning is a process that is VERY dependant on the base metal.  I can agree with that since I have taken a blow torch to several different pieces.  The base metals and quality of the chrome really effect the result.

I may be leaning into the AGED look...I think this can be done with chemicals

I've never liked relicing, but various kinds of distressed pickups can look really cool! Clearly pictures of your results will be needed :)

I do not want to confuse what I want to do with Reliced with BEAT UP!  While guitars ala Stevie Ray look cool, this is not what I am trying to accomplish.

My idea is a non-shiny...satin/oiled guitar that is simple.....somthing that if I get a mark I do not have to be obsessed about buffing it out.  I guess the best word to describe it is NATURAL....natural wood, natural metal...etc.  The guitar will be fully finished but maintaining a natural element of being unfinished...or finished....naturally!!

Just do what gary said, and scuff it up with some sand paper... :icon_thumright:

i want to get some the black like the bareknuckles.  I am going to experiment with sanding and HCL acid.

, careful that's some wicked stuff...

Just put one in a glass of Coke for a few hours... :icon_biggrin:

I am gonna try sanding and using the fumes 1st.  I need to do some floyd parts so I do not want to submerg.

Oh boy, careful with that floyd Eugene.  :laughing7:

But seriously, seems to me like there'd be a lot of ways to mess up a floyd during a process like that.

you got that...I am either going to take it apart and sand then acid.  There are certain parts I do not want to be effect by the acid.
