Active Tone controls, what's the point?

Very informative, thank you Mr. Re-Pete, you beat Cagey and TFS to the punch!

But I'm guessing what I'm envisioning in my mind is nigh impossible.
Everyone claims they have what you can't find on the racks, but it's all just talk.
I guess I gotta just 'man-up' and deal with the limitations that the previous generation of guitar players dealt with.

Makes me respect what they did all that more.

*EDIT: The funny thing though...is one time I used a buddy's Fender Strat, a step up from squire, to save some wear and tear on my own gear. So I go to a jam with some friends whom I perceived as not being as serious as I (at the time). Well, I plugged in straight, no pedals, just stock passive s/s/s pups into loud tube amp clean. It was great. That combo did everything I needed it to do, from a "rescued" start (from neglect) and a pushed Tube amp. So maybe I don't need those EMG's IDK.

With the way the EMG dual mode pickups are constructed, what you want is a single coil section that has an Alnico magnet fro SA performance, and then couple that with a ceramic magnet to get close to 81 performance in humbucker mode.

I would see if you can hear some S single coils and see if you like their sound. If the S pickup is OK with you, then the 81TW could be easily done.

What position do you mostly use the SA pickups? If you use a lot of the SA pickups in neck or mid position on a Strat, you could buy those individually, then load up with the 81TW for the 81 in the bridge 'kick in the pants'.  :dontknow:

Of course, active Pickups have nothing to do with active tone controls. and Visa versa.

Nope. I was answering DustyCat's enquiries about EMG active dual mode pickups.  :confused4:

And ooh, what's this? next to it? Warmoth Dinky P?

I aways thought the P was for Fender Precision bass, not Peavey!  :evil4: :evil4:

Also I see they've stopped making carved topped Dinky Ps.
