Why store them?  Take the cheapest, crappiest one you have - chicks dig guitars  :icon_thumright:

I have a climate controlled storage space that I store my "gonna sell this someday" guitars, and about 20-ish guitars that I essentially keep in the cases at my house.  I live in western WA state, so the temperature is fairly moderate, but I've never had issues with taking out a guitar that I haven't played in a year.  I always give it a quick setup and usually change the strings.

Here's my advice:
1) Clean them up before you put them away.  Vacuum out your case, wipe the body and fretboard down (DON'T LEAVE POLISH OR OIL GUNK ON THE GUITAR), and make sure there's no hand oil or sweat on the strings or pickups.
2) Check on them whenever you come home.  Seriously.
3) Bring one with you every time you go back.  They need love.

I'd add make sure you inspect them for anything weird happening.  On one of my Ricks a "rubber" grommet  had broken down and started dissolving the finish that it was touching  :o

The ones under the pickup rings or pickguard?

pickup rings. Actually, under the pickups.  Ricks don't have pickup rings in the normal sense.

Dunno about storage, I guess, but you definitely have to loosen them before flying if you're checking them on a long flight.  Luggage holds can get very cold, and the strings will all tighten at once... it's possible to break the headstock.  If the flight is only an hour it won't really get cold, but if it's across the country or overseas, it's gonna get COLD.  Preferably, carry your guitar on
