Hanna sent me this beautiful Les Paul body to finish for her and it's off to a great start.

It had a ding to get steamed out so here are the before and after on the ding.

Hanna was after a yellow that leaned more toward orange than the standard lemon yellow on Gibson Les Pauls so I used LMI MEK yellow which leans toward orange. It will change once it gets clear on it but it looks great and really brought out what this wood has to offer.
Here it is dyed and the binding scraped.

WOW, no kiddin'! That dye sure does bring out the best in that grain. Looks fantastic!

Wow...
That dye really made that wood pop :icon_thumright:
This is going to be a beauty and I am anxious to watch her progress!
:kewlpics: :rock-on:

I agree, that figure came out wonderfully  :kewlpics:
And awesome job on the ding, looking forward to it's progress

That really is a dramatic change! I don't know why, but I wouldn't expect that from that color.

Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!  :toothy10: :toothy10: :toothy10:

Okay I'm already in love with this piece.  That is exactly what I was after on the yellow.  This is gonna be so cool!!  Thanks for posting, Tonar!  Good job getting the ding out too.

When I first saw the pics of that body I didn't care for the look of the top at all.  After the dye, I want to steal it and hide in a cave admiring it.  That's awesome!

The thing that drew me to this one was how symmetrical the flame is on the bookmatch and the fat, slightly wavy flame with the subtle vertical lines running through.  It was kind of hard to tell before the dye if it was really going to come out like that, or if it was just my imagination, but I can already tell it's going to be one of those "pictures don't do it justice" tops.  I'm so glad I decided to pull the trigger before the LPs were all gone.

I got the wash coat on today so I thought Hanna would like to see some progress photos because it will be awhile before I'll be able to burst it.

It might be nice if you made copies of the shots, and maybe the entire threads, and burned them to CD or DVD to stash in the folder with the rest of the paperwork on the build. Y'know - baby pictures. Down the road, you pull them out and reminisce, or pass copies along if you ever sell it.

Collect all the threads and make a coffee table book!  Call it "Tonar-ized!: Guitar Porn For DIYers".  I'd buy it.

Making a book might be a bit above and beyond the call of duty, but I do know that many players wish they had records of all their toys, particularly the guitars. You get sorta attached to them and it's almost always pleasant to look back on them. I say "almost" because there are times when you regret their loss. I know any time me and my buddies/brothers get together and start reminiscing, there's always a certain amount of angst/regret.

"Remember that coffee and gold Gibson 335?"
"Yeah, that was a sweet guitar. Had to sell it to fix that goddam Chrysler. Man, I hated that car!"
"No doubt."
"Gotta go to work, though. Whaddaya gonna do?"
"I know."

Lather, rinse, repeat for a mountain of other stuff.

:blob7:  I love the yellow Tonar gets on these.
Then he keeps adding others colours .... well that's OK too.

But just one day  :dontknow:  I might get a Tonar finish, and stop at the yellow. No burst with a clear back.

Great ongoing work Tonar  :icon_thumright:
