My google-fu is failing me.  I'm coming up blank while trying to find suitable screws in GOLD for use with threaded inserts. I realize that it's on the back of the guitar, so I could just suck it up and go for a nice contrasting BLACK. But I thought I'd check the collective first.

Anyone have a source?

Personally, I use the brushed stainless parts regardless of whether I'm using a black, chrome or gold plate. They don't clash at all, and I think add a nice unobtrusive accent. For example, here's a gold plate with stainless screws...

I think Bagman found a source of plated/painted 8-32 oval head machine screws, but I can't find the post now. Perhaps he'll see this and pipe up.

I finally found his source here. But, while they have a variety of finishes, they don't do gold, either.

O.K., ya got me there.  Very cool neck plate by Dangerous...
I missed the machine screw request.  Good luck!

I've had good luck finding all my guitar screws of all sizes and colors in hardware sections of home depot, Lowes and our local Ace hardware store.

So next time you have a "what to do today" moment, drive around your town and find that store for you.

Oh, and they are way cheaper than buying from a guitar parts outlet

BTDT when I was waiting on pickguard & switch screws. They have black, and all sorts of light switch colored screws, but I never found any gold plated oval head phillips. I tried brass, thinking it would be close. When I found the results dissapointing, it hit me: Duh! People have been trying to pass of brass as gold for thousands of years with similar results.

I think I'l either go black or stainless.

Black would look nice against gold or chrome, too. But, in addition to the reason given for liking stainless, it also has the merit of always being brushed stainless. Black and gold will both show tool marks no matter how careful you are. They're especially noticeable on black.
